Wings of Wonder
The pinnacle event of KIF is Wings of Wonder (WOW). WOW is a fun, totally free day out at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland for children with serious illnesses and their families.
Why is this event important?
The main feature at WOW is a sight-seeing tour over the Cleveland area. Local volunteer pilots use their own planes to take families on a 15-20 minutes flight. Children get to view their world from a different perspective and learn a little about aviation. KIF maintains extremely high safety standards and is proud of an exemplary safety record.
There is a full slate of activities, something for everyone. A typical event has games, crafts, interactive exhibits, face painting, balloon animals, air-brush tattoos, and much more. A catered lunch is also provided. Past lunches have included macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, chicken tenders, various salads, desserts and soft drinks.
KIF exists to serve children and families with serious illnesses. Most reside in the Cleveland and Akron areas or are served by a local hospital. Some come to KIF from the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. Many have cancer, heart defects, brain tumors and other life-changing illnesses and disabilities. Recommended ages are 5-18. To fly, a child must be able to safely enter and exit aircraft, sit in the seat of an unpressurized aircraft for thirty to forty minutes and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
No Show Policy
In order to responsibly manage donor resources and maintain the quality of Kids in Flight events, it has become necessary to implement a “No Show/No Call” policy. Although conflicts and uncontrollable situations occur and are understandable, the increasingly large number of no shows/no calls have become very costly to Kids in Flight. The policy outlined below will take effect immediately.
– All qualifying families (those having children with serious illnesses or profound disabilities and whose child is over the age of five years) are welcome to apply or register for KIF planned events and will be added to a mailing list in order to be notified of event details, future events including Wings of Wonder, holiday parties, fundraising events and other activities.
– If, after registration, your family and/or any registered guests are unable to attend the event for any reason, we respectfully request notification via email at email@example.com as soon as possible prior to the event. We also request that you carefully consider your family’s guests when planning for events. If your guest count changes, it is imperative that you make us aware of it.
– After 3 no-show, no-call instances, you will be removed from our mailing list and will not qualify for future events. Thank you for your careful consideration of and cooperation with this policy
