God Bless You, Your Organization, and the staff of volunteers…
Founded in 2003, Kids In Flight has impacted the lives of thousands of area children. Our mission is to use avaiation as a tool to empower children with serious illnesses or disabilities and their families to see their world from a different perspective through flight experiences and educational programs.
To accomplish our goal, Kids In Flight hosts an annual event at Burke Lakefront Airport called Wings of Wonder. That day we hope to encourage all of our KIF children to soar with their dreams. Wings of Wonder includes a sightseeing flight over Cleveland, many hands-on activities, static aircraft displays, entertainment, and a catered lunch all at no cost to out Kids In Flight families. This unique event is possible through the efforts of our volunteer pilots who donate their time and aircraft, by a large volunteer staff who work tirelessly to bring a smile to the children’s faces, and by many generous donors.
It is astonishing to meet children who have such struggles in their young lives. We have met children with brain tumors, leukemia, and many other forms of cancer. Some have heart disease, while others have already had organ transplants. Many illnesses we’ve never heard of and cannot even pronounce. Talk about perspective.
Picture the smiles on the faces of these amazing children after they have experienced something new! Hearing their laughter and knowing you have made a small difference warms your heart and is unforgettable. We definitely get more than we give when we encounter these children at Wings of Wonder.
Following Wings of Wonder 2012, when more than 60 individual flights were made, one mother wrote us:
“God bless you, your organization, and the staff of volunteers. You don’t know what you do for the children and the families. Happy is not an adequate word for what you accomplish. Your kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for the children and families mean more than you will ever know. I was overwhelmed with the atmosphere of love I felt from everyone.”
